Today was the first day that I ran on the treadmill with my new New Balance Minimus shoes. This was the 2nd run that I've completed with them and today's run was really good. I ran 3.5 miles with an 8:55 pace and had no problems with cramping or pain in my feet or calves. Because I am transitioning to minimus footwear I'm making conscious efforts to be aware of my foot striking. I am trying to ensure that I do not heel strike. I've read a few articles and they say that it's important to be cautious of this and to take your time when transitioning to minimus type of footwear. Given that I'm NOT a runner, I'm doing what I can to be cautious in order to avoid injury and make a smooth transition to this type of footwear. My over all goal and reason for making this transition is to use this footwear in obstacle racing which I plan to do in 2012. I will write about obstacle racing in future articles.
